Mindset is Everything

What is the difference between growth and fixed mindsets?

A fixed mindset is the belief that your abilities are set or limited because of what you were born with, or past experiences. People with a fixed mindset tend to view their failures as an indication that they are not good enough, or that there is something deficient about themselves. A growth mindset is a belief that it is okay to "grow" into a new skill set, it acknowledges that there is a learning curve and that we can permit ourselves to grow into our gifts and strengths. Living with a growth mindset celebrates the process of learning.

There is an understanding that practicing and learning from our mistakes is okay. It's really the belief that wherever you are currently is temporary and that you can change. When people with a growth mindset fail, they don't view the failure as a reflection of who they are in their core, they see it as an opportunity for learning. Failure merely provides them with information about how to improve.

Why does mindset matter?

When adversity arises, having a growth mindset will help you have a more accurate view of yourself and your potential. You are not a failure and can get through life's challenges. A sense of confidence strengthens every time you go through something difficult. Having a growth mindset activates your tendency to seek challenges and perform better. When you have a fixed mindset, do you want to be challenged? No. You run from challenges because they reinforce your belief that you are not good enough. You end up hiding and using a lot of energy avoiding challenges and living an unfulfilled life.

How can I change my mindset?

Words have the power to build or destroy. Changing your language is one of the most important steps to adopting a growth mindset.  Judgemental, critical, or self-deprecating language needs to go. Use positive, kind language that offers grace to self and others. Use language that supports the idea that you can change, learn, and continue to grow.

Here are some positive affirmations that support a growth mindset

IT'S OKAY TO:

  • ASK QUESTIONS

  • MAKE MISTAKES

  • NOT KNOW EVERYTHING

  • GROW AT YOUR OWN PACE

  • START OVER AGAIN

  • SEEK SUPPORT

  • BE YOURSELF

Celebrate the ups and downs life brings and your happiness levels will increase. If you are not winning you are learning. Let yourself be okay with both!

Happy growing!

Loves always,
