I love all the healing arts such as: massage therapy, cranial sacral work, meditation, mindfulness exercises, yoga, Tai Chi Gung, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Sound Baths, music therapy, cold plunging, journaling and especially healing practices that include art, imagination, and creativity. There is a fairly new art therapy technique getting more attention in the healing arts world and it is called neurographica.
What is Neurographica?
It is a fun meditative drawing practice that reflects reality and deepens mindfulness. Simply draw curves and swoops on the page, or even straight lines and shapes, in the artwork. Then fill in and or thicken the intersections where the lines cross. Add shapes and colors into the design.
What is the Meaning of Shapes and Colors in Neurographica?
The circle is a positive principle that symbolizes harmony, safety, integrity, and trust.
The square represents reliability, stability, strength, and organization.
The triangle symbolizes energy, excitement and action.
How Does Art Affect the Brain?
Art increases our ability for observation. It accesses the feeling world and strengthens connection to intuition and self-expression. Art can put the mind in a meditative state and can increase memory and problem-solving skills.
What is Meditation?
Meditation helps increase connection to your core self, by quieting the mental chatterbox. Meditation with Neurographica can empower you to let go of negative thought patterns. Breathing and entering into mindlessness can bring healing and peace. This kind of peace develops and grows as you learn to retrain your brain.
“Suffering is due to disconnection with the inner soul. Meditation is re-establishing that re-connection.” -Amit Ray
Add neurographica to your list of self-care tools and the healing arts. Find some private time where it’s just you and the paper and the colors. Help your mind focus on mindlessness. By doing so the stress levels come down and cortisol levels are lowered. Get some paper out and allow yourself to create, release and meditate.
Enjoy the fall season and have a happy October!
Loves always,
Pam
